How to use it
- Drag in an .srt or .vtt file, or paste the text.
- The format is detected automatically; choose a target if you prefer.
- See what was discarded and download the converted file.
What changes between SRT and VTT
SRT uses a comma before the milliseconds, numbers each block and has no header. WebVTT uses a dot, starts with a WEBVTT line, does not need numbering and supports notes, styles and positioning. For captions in the HTML video tag, use WebVTT.
What is discarded
Converting VTT to SRT removes notes, styles, regions and cue positioning because SRT has no equivalent. The tool shows what was left out.
Frequently asked questions
Is my file uploaded?
No. The conversion happens in your browser.
Does the conversion change my caption text?
No. Only the header, numbering and millisecond separator change. When converting SRT to VTT, & and < are escaped.
Can I convert a styled VTT to SRT?
Yes. Styles and notes are dropped because SRT does not support them, and the tool tells you.
