SRT file validator online

Drag an .srt or .vtt file here, or click to choose

The file is read in your browser and is not uploaded to any server.

How to use it

  1. Drag in the .srt file or paste the text.
  2. Read the list of errors and warnings, each with the line where it happens.
  3. Fix the file in your editor and validate again, or download the report.

What is checked

Sequential numbering from 1, timestamps with hours, minutes, seconds and three millisecond digits separated by a comma, the --> arrow, an end time after the start, overlap with the previous caption, blocks without text, duplicate blank lines and signs of wrong encoding.

Error or warning

An error usually blocks the import or hides the caption. A warning is something most players accept but is worth fixing, such as a small overlap.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my editor reject my SRT?

The most common causes are a dot instead of a comma in timestamps, a missing blank line between blocks, an end time before the start and wrong encoding. The tool points to the line of each one.

Is my file uploaded?

No. Validation happens in your browser.

Does it fix the file?

No, it only reports problems. For broken accents use the encoding fixer; to change format use the converter.
